A truly WILD ride! ADVENTURE found us!

Yesterday was an experience I will not soon forget, nor will my children ;-) aren't those the best kind of days.....???? there is a part of the Outer Banks where horses roam free and live among the people...they came here by ship many years ago.......and the back story was fascinating....so we took a ride in the back of this guys's trucks, with some seats lining the bed, and seatbelts, thank goodness lol :-) ones he jokingly told us before we started are our friends, and he wasn't kidding lol ....I ended up on the back, the last seat with the wide open space beyond the truck behind me..... I wanted my kids on the inside....and it was a WILD ride....no question.....but what I didn't expect was for him to take us through an entire different culture.....there are folks on the end of the Outer Banks here, that are hardcore beach people lol like hardcore.....their entire beach community and roads, are made of sand and dunes......the only way around is via 4wd or AWD vehicles.......no easy convenience in sight.......remote.....and they bring and drive their vehicles on the beach where they hang out.....we were driving about 50 miles an hour in his truck, beside the ocean, in four sometimes five lanes of oncoming traffic! And sometimes they didn't move and he had to adjust in a last minute......that is what I mean by wild ride;-) like some "adrenaline pumping we almost hit a truck head on kinda wild...." and the people on the beach were another level serious about their beach time......totally stocked to the hilt with all their beach supplies and vehicles....kegs.....flags.....giant coolers...tents.....all of it......and the beach we rode on was gorgeous.....it truly was....I get its appeal.....and they would play cornhole and games right beside the flying trucks, barely noticing them at all.....but flying around on the beach and in the preserve to see the horses, on that local guy's truck was super fun, it just was.....my kids loved it.....and for me it brought me back to being a kid and riding in the back of trucks, sans seatbelts ;-) a lot..... and off roading.....for a good bit of my teen years, I spent them in big jeeps, off roading in vehicles, and flying around through the woods.....and big fields.....we used to camp on top of a mountain and it was all so extreme feeling then too.....and it was super fun.....it is funny to revisit a part of yourself, one you felt was over and done, and then there it is :) we trusted that this guy knew the ways to navigate that strange land and he did.....he was very agile and reactive and kept us safe......there was a lot of wind in the hair.....jostling about kinda vibes....almost feeeling as if you were falling out of the truck lol ..and laughter.....lots and lots of smiling and laughing.......my parents went and my brother and his wife Stacey, and my Uncle Dave and Aunt Laurie......and all of our expectations were exceeded.....we all loved it....not sure what we expected, maybe a slow and simple ride through the preserve to see the horses? Or maybe a truck with better seats lol.....safer feeling vibe....or maybe I don't know....but whatever I had expected was replaced very soon in an instance.....I kept thinking of the movie with Keanu Reeves, Pointbreak, where they are bank robbers, outlaws, and surfers......it had that kinda vibe.....the outlaw beach people lol.....like literally being in a completely new land.....we saw lots of horses.....they name them all.....and then he told us they are naming another one "Dragonfly" and there was my sister, making her presence known in our great adventure from heaven:) it was all lovely......we then headed out to dinner and I had perhaps the greatest Prime Rib of my life......the food was delicious, my kids cleaned their plates...just perfection from start to finish.....I often say I want to offer my kids adventures, some small, some big....and I think the spirit in which you go into an experience can make it an adventure.....and my kids are used to me saying that, but yesterday was truly one, all by itself.....and it was wild and free......and exhilarating and thrilling, adrenaline pumping....all the things that make for a great adventure.....I was so glad we did it and look forward to making more memories this week.....and finding more adventures to adventure with my favorite adventure companions:)
