I wrote about my plans for the weekend......and they evolved some yesterday;-) This may be the biggest or maybe at the least, the most unique adventure the kids and I have ever done! All week I had been on the fence about renting a place to stay, despite wanting to hike both of the days......all the rentals were overpriced, and in my budget not so nice, and I was having a hard time justifying the money........and in my research I found this little site that had cabins close to Watkins Glen state park......when I called this sweet woman answered......she told me she is normally booked solid but this weekend she has a few cabins.....she also said she normally has a few night minimum and this weekend she doesn't.......and she offered me the only cabin she has with a fireplace:) The cabin has no bathroom or running water and there is a bath house.....but it looks adorable........I have to bring most everything including the wood for the fireplace;-) But good thing I have some! It has a little heater too but I am bringing one that I have to be sure! And the price was PERFECT:) I am bringing a big cooler of provisions and we will be on our way! So my plan is to get up early Saturday and get us on the road......get there and check in and then do the main trail at Watkins Glen and then hang at the cabin with my crew, maybe some smores and some sweet family time, she also said the grounds there are really nice too:) Then my plan is to get back up on Sunday and hike again! Some people have recommended some surrounding spots that are really great too:) I think this trip will be one for the books......and I was thinking yesterday when I booked this, that the likelihood of this trip ever happening in my old life would be none........one because I wouldn't have remembered that I love hiking and wouldn't have been looking for unique ways to enjoy nature......but all the details of the trip would not have been appealing......too extreme perhaps or not embraced.....and having my eyes wide open in my new life and my willingness to say yes to adventure is one of my favorite things........and as I have said a lot......I have and had done a lot with my kids on my own......but if somebody ever told me I would be doing this kind of thing.......I might have thought they were crazy.....;-) but in my new life if I don't embrace these things and take them on then we won't be able to do things.......we are a party of three! I was hoping it would work for my friend to come......but it didn't.........so I am embracing what is and trusting the experience will be amazing.........the sites, and the time away, and our rustic little home away from home:) I can't wait!
